"No matter who you are, where ya come from, or where ya been, fishin' is for everyone. And there's nothin' greater in the whole world than fishing with friends. Take it from me; I'm a bear.” - Brynjar the Bear

CARVING

After catching a fish, an angler can carve it, keeping only its valuable Fish Parts - and possibly increasing the value overall.

Carving a fish requires a Wisdom (Survival) Check by default, although the GM may allow alternative Ability Checks if a justification can be made for it.

This is referred to as a Carve Check. The level of the fish determines the Carve DC (see Scaling DC by Level - Optional Rule)

The size of the fish determines how many Activities must be dedicated to the carve (see Carve Activities by Size Table). Activities to carve fish are usually consecutive, but if the fish is preserved in some way in the middle of carving, you can break apart the Activities.

Optional Rules or Clarification

SCALING DC BY LEVEL

Optional Rule Instead of having a flat table for the DC, you may wish for the Carve DC to be more flexible.

In this system, the Carve DC would be the Fish's Level + 5 (Rounding up)

ADDITIONAL SUCCESSES FISH PARTS VALUE

Optional Rule To make carving more valuable, any time an angler beats the Carve DC by 5 or more, they will yield an additional 10% Market Value from the Carve.

As an option, you can also have it that every 5 above the DC increases the Market Value of the Fish Parts by an additional 10%. So if the anglers roll a 25 on their Carve Check and the Carve DC is 15, they can yield an additional 20%.

It is recommended to put a hard cap on this - (I’ve chosen 30%)

FISH REMAINS

Any fish outside Combat Catches that is killed are considered Fish Remains, which are worth 50% of its Market Value. In addition, Fish Remains can still be carved from, acquiring the fish's original full Market Value in Fish

FISHING STYLES

Fishing Styles determine the Ability Score you use when making your Fishing Checks, which involve your Survival skill. An angler proficient in Survival will automatically already know the Still Fishing Style and one other Basic Fishing Style.

<aside> ❕ An angler not proficient in Survival will only be able to use the Still Fishing Style, or make Wisdom (Survival) Checks when fishing.
